JANUARY HOME CARE REMINDERS
Check gutters for debris or blockage. When you are removing holiday lights, check for debris in the gutters.
Change your furnace filter. A clean filter will not only remove more dust from the air but it will also improve the efficiency of your furnace.
Clean range hood filters. Remove the filters and either clean with hot water in your sink or check your owners manual to see if they are dishwasher safe.
Check water hoses on washer, refrigerator and dishwasher for cracks/bubbles. Leaks from these water supply lines can cause major damage.
Maintain your garbage disposal. Add a few cups of ice and some baking soda to your disposal and then grind the ice. Rinse with cold water for 1 to 2 minutes.
Pour/run water into seldom used drains. Pour about ½ gallon of water down unused floor drains and other seldom used fixtures to refill the water in the trap. This will prevent sewer gases from coming into your home.
Water trees/shrubs. Our drier winter weather requires that trees and shrubs be watered a couple of times per month. Just fill a bucket and water the trunk.
